Local Area Information

The area of Marbella that Casa Gecko is located is known as Reserva de Marbella which neighbours with Las Chapas, a small residential and beach urbanisation situated. Set between Fuengirola and Marbella, it is an ideal location for families who want to enjoy a beach holiday, but would also like to explore the local coastline.

The delightful beachside urbanisation is within walking distance, along the beach to Cabopino Port, with its variety of restaurants and bars.  Hop in the car and in 2 minutes you will be in Elviria, where there are bars, shops, supermarket (Supersol) with a good fresh fish counter, lots of restaurants and the exclusive Nikki Beach Club. The well known Don Carlos hotel is nearby.

The area, east of Marbella, between Marbella and Calahonda, is less developed than most parts of the Costa del Sol and is surrounded by beautiful green pine scenery. There are also several excellent golf courses in the surrounding landscape, making Reserva de Marbella an excellent destination for golf holidays.

The blue flag beaches here, east of Marbella, are said to be the finest on the Costa del Sol. Clean, relaxed chiringuitos (beachside restaurants) can be found every few hundred metres, and in Cabopino there are host of water sports activities to be enjoyed. Marbella is about 10 to 15  minutes drive west of Casa Gecko.

The nearby beach section from restaurant Triana towards Cabopino is a nature reserve with a network of extensive board walks over the protected sand dunes. It is also a 'naturist beach' so people walk around nude. Don't be shocked if you walk this section!

The town of Fuengirola is a short 15 minute drive east and has some great events every year. They have large fairs which bring out the ladies in all their flamenco finery while the 'caballeros' on horse back ride the streets. There a wonderful selection of restaurants and all the shopping you could ever want.

Head inland from Casa Gecko and you are up into the mountains very quickly. The town of Ronda is a well known place to visit and there are spectacular views as you head there. Ronda hosts a number of very good independent vineyards producing some superb wines.

Gibraltar is about an hour's drive along the coast. You can often see it clearly from the nearby beach. In fact you can often see the distant Moroccan Atlas mountains at sunset which is a spectacular sight at any time.
